The unit is coupled to a 3W solid state UV-A (350nm) laser, with a motorized XY stage. The equipment is driven by MMI and Volocity acquisition software and is powered by a Pentium 4 processor.

Zeiss Mirax Scan

The Zeiss Mirax Scan is a fully automated digital imaging platform for both histology and fluorescence specimens. Instead of using a conventional microscope to examine individual fields of large histological/fluorescence samples, a high-speed, automated scanner produces a fully stitched, high-resolution, digitized data set of the entire specimen. The system allows for processing of up to 300 slides in one batch, without user intervention. A 20X/0.80 Zeiss objective is used in combination with a Marlin F146-C, thereby generating images of excellent quality and resolution (1392x1040). The unit is powered by a dual Xeon-based PC with 3GB RAM.

NB: The Zeiss Mirax Scan is not available for individual operation. Rather, slides may be dropped off at the Imaging Facility (MaRS, rm 11-303) together with the contact information, and the resulting images/slides will be returned within 24-48 hrs.

Leica Fluorescence Stereomicroscope (MaRS)

This machine consists of a Leica stereomicroscope coupled to a high resolution 5.0 mega-pixel color CCD camera. The microscope features a 16:1 zoom range, up to 920x magnification and 820 pairs of lines/mm resolution. Fluorescence capabilities have also been adapted to the system, allowing for GFP, YFP and dsRed imaging. The unit is powered by a 24" Apple iMac, with 3GB RAM.

Nikon Histology/Long Term Imaging
A Nikon TE2000 inverted microscope equipped with both a high-resolution color camera for histology samples, as well as a high-resolution monochrome camera for fluorescence imaging. The unit is well suited for long-term imaging - it includes an environmental chamber with both temperature and CO2 control, a motorized XY stage and Nikon's patented Perfect Focus System, ensuring a constant focus with little or no focal drift.
